Today I ordered 3 baby chicks from My Pet Chicken, one of the few hatcheries that will ship less than 25 chicks at a time. Since we live in an agricultural area you would think I could go down to the local farm supply store and pick up a few chicks, but I learned the hard way last time that chicks in our area are not sold sexed, usually housed in less than stellar conditions, immunized and fed medicated mash, and are subsequently not very hardy. So, I ordered two Barred Plymouth Rocks and one Golden Laced Wyandotte and they will be arriving next week! This weekend I will be setting up the new hutch my dad is generously donating and getting the makeshift brooder ready in the garage. My husband will be so thrilled.
I don’t like to name animals without meeting them, but my obsession/sick fascination with the Golden Girls (thanks grandma!) is making me lean toward Dorothy, Sophia and Rose. But not Blanche. She was a slut.
