Shop & Save the Earth!
by lazys ~ November 15th, 2007. Filed under: Life & Other Adventures.Having recently discovered that I could order many of my earth friendly household products through Amazon AND NEVER HAVE TO LEAVE MY HOUSE (squeeee!!!) I’ve been searching for more ways to bulk grocery shop online, especially for organic grains, whole wheat pasta & other yummies. I’ve yet to find the perfect source yet, but I got a GRIT newsletter today about a site called EarthMoment which takes half of the advertising commission they recieve when you make a purchase through thier site and donates it to carbon-reducing projects like renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation projects. And you get to pick where your donation ends up! They carry a lot of gift type items & household schtuff, which I probably will never buy because honestly its just more consumption in the end, but with the holidays coming the shop till you drop madness begins, and wouldn’t it be great to know your purchases gave a little bit back?
In a similar green vein, I just finished an awesome book called Rural Renaissance that is a must have for anyone interested in sustainability & am currently devouring Living the Good Life: How One Family Changed Their World from Their Own Backyard which so far is greatly amusing and very inspiring. I’ve been looking into ways to set up a greywater system, though that most likely will be a project bequeathed to my husband, because mechanical I am not.
