Small Space Fabric Storage

As someone with an admittedly out of control addiction to fabric and craft supplies in general, storage is often on my mind. My house is right around 900 sqaure feet, so its not like I have the luxury of an entire room dedicated to my hobby (although I’m sure if I did, it would still be overflowing!), but after much trial and error I have managed to store my large pieces of fabric neatly. I’ve tried tubs & boxes, but not being able to see what I have at a glance irritated me and I only have so much floor space in the dining room where my sewing station is located. I needed something that would allow me to see at a glance what I had to work with. On a whim, I bought a bunch of curtain rods… the cheap $.98 kind. After some convincing (and the promise of chocolate chip cookies) my husband drilled and anchored the hangers for me. The result, an easily adjustable way to store fabric:

I took the idea one step further by hanging up an idea board and another corkboard to organize my ribbon and trims:

While it is still a bit cramped, I am able to match fabrics and trims with a glance, hang up reference materials directly in front of my machine and store my quilt quarters in organized boxes beneath the table, saving floor space for my daughter to cover with tape and stickers. :)
