If you have a sewing machine and a tree hugging inclination, I urge you to check out Goods for Girls, an organization that sends homemade cloth menstrual pads to girls in Africa who do not have access to menstrual supplies. What a fabulous idea! However, I can’t help but feel that we should be doing a little more to spread the message here at home as well. Using cloth is still considered gross and taboo here which is really silly and a shame. My daughter is 4 and years away from her first cycle, but I fully intend to present her with her very own set of adorable cloth pads when the period fairy arrives for her. Which she will probably hate me for, but I’m assuming by then she’ll hate everything anyway.
