Saturday morning I was puttering around in the garden when I heard a terrible hissing noise and found one of my cats engaged in mortal combat with, of all things, a hamster. A hamster who had obviously seen better days, as one eye was swollen shut and half of an ear was torn off. I donned leather gloves and rescued him from my oh-so-ferocious feline and ran to show my husband. Needless to say, we have a very different outlook on the taking in of strays. I take a “The more the merrier!” approach, while he tends to protest, sigh and resign himself to the fact that his wife is a crazy woman.

I named him Peaches, despite his very evident testicles. The chances of him getting any action are slim anyway. He’s very friendly and has been living in a rubbermaid bin full of paper shreds, munching happily on hamster food and banana. So now I’m on the hunt for a cage… if you know of anyone who has one and would love to donate it to a possibly blind, half eaten hamster with a heart of gold, please, let me know!

Who could resist a face like that?
